Latisa S. Carson, M.D.
Latisa S. Carson, M.D. is a board certified physician in Obstetrics and Gynecology. She is the only female African American obstetrician-gynecologist in solo private practice in San Diego County. Her residency training was completed at Southern Illinois University, Springfield, Illinois. Her internship year was spent at King/Drew Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. Dr. Carson is a graduate of the University of Kansas School of Medicine, Kansas City, Kansas. Dr. Carson is also board certified in Obesity Medicine and is a member of the Obesity Medicine Association.
As a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., she enjoys participating in the programs and operations of the Sorority which involve improving the social status of women and girls. She has served on the board of directors for The Horn of Africa, a nonprofit organization that assists African refugees and immigrant families.
Dr. Carson’s honors include a “Woman Who Means Business” award from San Diego magazine, as well as commendations from the San Diego Black Nurses Association and the Serving Youth Through Education and Support (SYTES) Foundation. She was named a “Phenomenal Woman” by the Bethel Memorial AME Church.
She grew up in Southeast San Diego and has enjoyed returning to her community to practice medicine. Dr. Carson is committed to a medical ministry of healing through her dedication to the health and wellness of women in San Diego County.
She is married to her college sweetheart and they have two children. They enjoy hiking and visiting State and National parks.
